Review of the StormPro BA Sump Pump
The company tag line is… “These dependable high output submersible pumps are ideal for use in heavy-duty sump and utility applications. StormPro pump use high efficiency motors that cost less to operate and discharge more water than standard pumps. Stainless steel and cast iron construction ensure years of reliable operation. The adjustable vertical switches are ideal for reducing the pump cycle in deeper pits or areas with higher water tables.” The StormPro BA-33M is one of the most dependable 1/3 HP pumps on the market.
Ask yourself if you want a pump that was originally sold only by plumbers, contractors, and distributors? That is exactly what the StromPro BA-33M is. It is a heavy-duty pump that was originally marketed and sold to the professionals and now is available to purchase for the rest of us average home-owning DIY’ers.
There is no denying that these pumps are built to last. A cast iron and stainless steel volute and motor housing will provide years of reliable operation. Bonus, the cast iron impeller will also extend the life of the pump even. Like StormPro says about their pumps using high efficiency motors that cost less to operate, but still discharge more water than standard pumps. I was dubious also, but you can compare similar HP pumps to these and you’ll see for yourself that these pumps use fewer amps to operate and provide a higher output.
The final reason why the StormPro pumps get our highest recommendation is the float switch. The adjustable float switch can be mounted on the discharge pipe, you may ask why that is important. This is an important feature if you have a deep sump pit or if you live in an area with a high water table. By increasing the amount of time between cycles, it will extend the life of your pump. Last, but not least, since these pumps use a piggyback type switch, they can be replaced if necessary without having to replace the pump.

StormProStormPro BA – 33M 1/3 HP Cast Iron Stainless Steel Sump Pump w/ Adjustable Vertical Float
Perfect ForThe StormPro BA-33M is perfect for a homeowner who wants a worry free sump pump that is dependable for years. This sump pump is built to last. Everything about this StormPro BA-33M is focused on durability from the cast iron volute and impeller. To the shaft, which is silicone carbide (picked because of the low density, high strength, heat resistant, and rust resistant).
As mentioned earlier, the piggyback switch for this pump is a big plus if you live in an area with high water tables and/or have a deep sump pit. The float switch can be set to cut in at a higher water level, which means that compared to a fixed float switch (hard-mounted switch), it will not run as much. The switch is one of the parts of a sump pump that usually needs replacing first depending on the usage. Since the float is not hard-mounted it is easier to replace. Another point to consider about the StormPro BA-33M is the vertical switch attached to the discharge pipe takes up less space in the pit which leaves room for a backup sump pump if you have an eighteen inch diameter pit. Also, by using a vertical float switch it decreases the tendency to get caught up on the sides of the sump basin.
StormPro uses a stainless steel screen to keep solids and debris that is larger tha 3/16 inches from flowing through the intake.
If you think you need a 1/2 HP sump pump than first consider that for the average homeowner the 1/3 HP motor of the StormPro BA-33M is more than powerful enough. It can pump 50 gallons per minute at 10 foot head (that is the 3,000 GPH in the table above). This is better than some competitor’s 1/2 HP brands. The maximum head or height it will operate at is 25 feet. The motor is a hermetically sealed, 60 Hz with a reset thermal overload protection. The sump pump runs on 115V, and is safe for continuous duty.
Like the Basement Watchdog BW4000, this sump also has a smaller footprint with height of 12 ½ inches and maximum diameter of 7.9. That means it will easily fit into an 18 inch diameter pit along with a backup sump pump.
What Customers Are Saying“I can’t believe how fast my order was shipped. The quality of the pump is great. We installed it & it is working great! I’m a contractor & will be buying more from this supplier.” – Richard N.
“I had an older pump in my house that was working, but was worried about it’s age and decided it was time to replace. Thank goodness I did. The old pump produced so much vibration that the check valve had cracked and was giving out. I quickly replaced it with this pump after seeing all the great reviews. This pump is so much quicker than my old one, very silent and little to no vibration. We have been under heavy storms here in the midwest and this pump has been working like a champ. I highly recommend it.” – Adam O
“Got tired of changing the “cheap” switch that kept “burning up” ,on my 1-3 hp Wayne pedistal sump pump and decided to go with the StormPro BA-33m with the adjustable float. Great choice. Easy to install and pumps water much quicker than the Wayne. Only time will tell now if this switch is any better than the Wayne, but so far-so good. Very pleased with the ease of installation and how it has operated for the last month. ” – Michael J.
“Received my new pump last night and installed it this morning with a forecast of more torrential rain.
My old pump (not StormPro) had developed an intermittent electrical problem and I could no longer trust it to keep working during a storm. Pump failure would mean another big bill to fix a drowned heating plant!” – Richard R.
